Exemplaire sur un flan ovale, parfaitement centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait légèrement stylisé. Revers bien venu à la frappe. A été nettoyé anciennement. Patine grise légèrement granuleuse au revers

Magistrat : Agésidamos. pour ce type, outre le didrachme, il existe aussi un statère d’or. Sur cet exemplaire, le portrait est légèrement stylisé.

CARIA - CARIAN ISLANDS - RHODES

(304-189 BC)

The chronology of the coinage of Rhodes between the siege of 305 BC by Demetrius Poliorcetes and the Peace of Apamea (188 BC.) could be clarified thanks to the work of R. Ashton, Rhodian Coinage and the Colossus, RN .1988,p.75-90, pl. XV-XVIII who devoted himself to a detailed study of these didrachms which enabled him to establish a chronology of the emissions. The invasions of the Galatians during the 3rd century BC were particularly devastating and forced the Greek cities to fortify.
