Комментарий

Antoine Godeau est né à Dreux le 24 septembre 1605 et décédé le 21 avril 1672. Poète, il est remarqué et fréquente l’hôtel de Rambouillet, où sa petite taille et son assiduité auprès de Julie d'Angennes (fille de la marquise de Rambouillet) le firent surnommer «le Nain de Julie». Il écrivit des préfaces, des ouvrages religieux, des oraisons funèbres (celle de Louis XIII), la Vie de saint Augustin, l’Histoire ecclésiastique des quatre premiers siècles, des poésies chrétiennes. Il fut aussi évêque de Grasse (1636) et est évêque de Vence dès 1639. Il devint un des premiers membres de l'Académie française, dès la fondation de celle-ci en 1634 ; l'année suivante, il fut, après la mort de Pierre Bardin, le premier académicien à prononcer l'éloge funèbre d'un confrère décédé. Il est remplacé par Esprit Fléchier (voyez JETONS XVI n° 195).

Antoine Godeau was born in Dreux on September 24, 1605 and died on April 21, 1672. A poet, he was noted and frequented the Hôtel de Rambouillet, where his small size and his assiduity with Julie d'Angennes (daughter of the Marquise de Rambouillet) earned him the nickname \\\"Julie's Dwarf.\\\" He wrote prefaces, religious works, funeral orations (that of Louis XIII), the Life of Saint Augustine, the Ecclesiastical History of the First Four Centuries, and Christian poetry. He was also Bishop of Grasse (1636) and Bishop of Vence from 1639. He became one of the first members of the Académie Française, upon its foundation in 1634; the following year, after the death of Pierre Bardin, he was the first academician to deliver a funeral eulogy for a deceased colleague. It is replaced by Esprit Fléchier (see TOKENS XVI n° 195). Feuardent only knows this token in silver
