Bien que traditionnellement attribué à Cneius Domitius Ahenobarbus, l’un des fondateurs de Narbonne, il ne peut en aucun cas faire référence à la guerre qui opposa les Romains à la coalition arverne, conduite par leur roi, Bituit, et qui fut finalement écrasée en 121 avant J.-C. après trois ans de guerre.
