La médaille, conservée dans une boîte cartonnée marron, a été décernée à H. Cador.

Au sortir de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, la nationalisation d'EDF a eu parmi ses multiples objectifs celui de contribuer au redressement et à la modernisation industrielle du pays. Cet effort s'est traduit par le développement de grands ouvrages hydroélectriques, et de la production thermique à partir du charbon avec notamment l'accroissement progressif de la taille des centrales afin de bénéficier des effets d'échelle et l'intégration du bassin minier de Ronchamp et de sa centrale thermique en 1946.
Avant 1946, la France comptait beaucoup de compagnies d'électricité, qui ne fournissaient pas l'électricité sous une tension standard. EDF a entrepris de standardiser cette tension entre 1956 et 1991. Le passage au 220 V résulte de l'alimentation en triphasé 380/220 et a permis de réaliser l'unification de la tension d'alimentation (passage au « compteur bleu » dans les années 1960).
Dans les années 1950 et 1960, après la sortie de la pénurie, l'enjeu s'est déplacé vers la pénétration de l'électricité dans les usages tel que les machines tournantes ou les processus efficients..
