Cette drachme est exactement du même type que la monnaie n° 201 du Savès, provenant de la BN (n° 3084). Les monnaies S. 200-203 appartiennent toutes à la variété 1 “chevelure à arcades” de la série IX. Considérées comme “communes” par G. Savès, toutes les monnaies de cette variété illustrant son ouvrage sont dans un très piètre état et d’une qualité de frappe laissant vraiment à désirer ! Aucune de ces monnaies ne figurait dans sa collection en 1976 ; il a entre-temps acquis la monnaie S. 200**, qui reste la seule monnaie de cette variante dans la collection G. Savès !
L’exemplaire proposé ici semble être issu du même coin de revers que la drachme BN 3084. Son droit serait le plus beau connu et de loin le mieux centré de tous les exemplaires publiés !.
This drachma is exactly the same type as the Savès coin No. 201, from the BN (No. 3084). The coins S. 200-203 all belong to variety 1 “hair with arcades” of series IX. Considered “common” by G. Savès, all the coins of this variety illustrating his work are in very poor condition and of a striking quality that leaves much to be desired! None of these coins were in his collection in 1976; he has since acquired the coin S. 200**, which remains the only coin of this variant in the G. Savès collection! The example offered here seems to come from the same reverse die as the drachma BN 3084. Its obverse would be the finest known and by far the best centered of all the published examples!
