Médaille signée au droit KIRK FEC, pour KIRK John, sculpteur et médailleur anglais (1724-1776).

David Garrick, né à Hereford le 19 février 1717 et mort à Londres le 20 janvier 1779, est un acteur et dramaturge britannique.
Son grand-père, David Garrick (version occitane de garrigue) avait fui la France après la Révocation de l'Édit de Nantes en 1685.
Aujourd'hui considéré comme l'une des figures les plus importantes du théâtre britannique du XVIIIe siècle, Garrick commence par étudier le droit et la littérature avec Samuel Johnson, avant de partir tenter sa chance à Londres en 1737. Ne trouvant pas de débouché, il se tourne vers le théâtre et débute en 1741 dans Richard III de Shakespeare. Il devient directeur du Théâtre de Drury Lane en 1747 et occupe ce poste durant 30 ans, alternant avec talent l'interprétation de comédies, de tragédies et de farces du répertoire britannique.
Il est également l'auteur d'une quarantaine de pièces de théâtre. Il est enterré à l'Abbaye de Westminster, dans le « coin des poètes ».
Il a fait partie du Literary Club, fondé par Samuel Johnson et Joshua Reynolds, aux côtés d'Oliver Goldsmith et de Charles Burney.
Le Garrick Club, à Londres, lui doit son nom.

His grandfather, David Garrick (Occitan version of garrigue) had fled France after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685.
Now considered one of the most important figures in 18th-century British theatre, Garrick began by studying law and literature with Samuel Johnson before leaving to try his luck in London in 1737.. Finding no outlet, he turned to the theatre and made his debut in 1741 in Shakespeare's Richard III. He became director of the Drury Lane Theatre in 1747 and held this position for 30 years, alternating with talent between the interpretation of comedies, tragedies and farces from the British repertoire..
He is also the author of around forty plays.. He is buried in Westminster Abbey, in the \\\"Poets' Corner\\\".
He was a member of the Literary Club, founded by Samuel Johnson and Joshua Reynolds, alongside Oliver Goldsmith and Charles Burney..
The Garrick Club in London is named after him..
