Ferdinand Maximilian Joseph von Habsburg-Lothringen (1832-1867) est prince impérial et archiduc d’Autriche, frère de François-Joseph Ier d’Autriche. Suite à l’Expédition du Mexique, fort du soutien de Napoléon III et ayant l’assurance du soutien populaire, il accepta en 1864 de devenir empereur du Mexique sous le nom de Maximilien Ier. Son pouvoir se limite en fait aux zones contrôlées par les garnisons françaises. Suite au retrait de ces dernières en 1867, les troupes impériales qui défendent Mexico sont battues par les troupes des libéraux et républicains. Jugé et condamné à mort, il est exécuté sur ordre de Benito Juarez le 19 juin 1867.

Following the latter's withdrawal in 1867, the imperial troops defending Mexico City were defeated by the troops of the liberals and republicans. Tried and sentenced to death, he was executed on the orders of Benito Juarez on June 19, 1867.
