Octavian, born September 23, 63 BC in Thurium, was adopted by his great-uncle, Julius Caesar, in 45 BC. After Caesar's death, he formed the second triumvirate with Marc Antony and Lepidus and was one of the architects of the proscriptions which cost Cicero his life in 43 BC. In 42 BC, Brutus and Cassius were defeated at Philippi, where they committed suicide.
