v34_1326 - PAGUS MOSELLENSIS - METTIS - METZ (Moselle) Triens, BVLCEDENVS monétaire

Le triens n° 2944 du Belfort (auquel se rapproche le plus l'exemplaire proposé ici) y est décrit comme "pièce fausse de l'époque mérovingienne, en bas métal". La légende du revers, bien que complète, est difficile à interpréter ; celle du B. 2943 et celle du B. 2944 ainsi que celle de cet exemplaire sont venues différemment et déchiffrées de façons diverses. Quoi qu'il en soit, le monétaire BOCCELENVS a été reconnu par Robert et Belfort, puis rectifié en BVLCEDENVS dans le Stahl, suivi par le Moneta qui ne répertorie toujours que les deux exemplaires BN. 944 et 945 qui sont aussi repris dans le Belfort. L'exemplaire proposé serait le troisième connu et donc le seul hors de la BN. Au droit, ce triens a la particularité d'avoir un petit T devant la bouche et un autre bouleté, devant le nez ; les dessins du Belfort ne reprennent pas précisément ces détails, mais les photos des monnaies BN. 944 et 945 montrent les mêmes caractéristiques. Si les dessins différencient nettement ces deux monnaies. L'examen des photos (de mauvaise qualité) rend difficile une étude de coin, mais il est quand même probable que ces trois triens aient été frappés avec les mêmes coins de droit et de revers.
Triens No. 2944 from Belfort (to which the example offered here is closest) is described as a \\\"fake piece from the Merovingian period, in low metal\\\". On the right, this triens has the particularity of having a small T in front of the mouth and another rounded one in front of the nose; the Belfort drawings do not precisely reproduce these details, but the photos of the BN coins. 944 and 945 show the same characteristics. If the drawings clearly differentiate these two coins. Examination of the (poor quality) photos makes a die study difficult, but it is still likely that these three trien were struck with the same obverse and reverse dies.
