For David Sellwood, the reign of this king is at the time of Mithradates II and he seems to have been a direct descendant of Arsaces. He would have revolted against the authority of Mithridates II between 95 and 90 BC according to the authors. Gotarzes I would have been the victim of the attack of Tigranes II, king of Armenia (97-56 BC), an ally of Mithradates II who then seized part of Media.
