Médaille sous capsule.
En 1957, la Sarre redevient une région allemande après avoir été placée sous protectorat français depuis la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. En 1955, un référendum rejette le projet de statut européen proposé par la France. Les habitants choisissent massivement le rattachement à la République fédérale d’Allemagne. Ce retour, effectif le 1er janvier 1957, marque un pas important vers la réconciliation franco-allemande.
Medal in capsule. In 1957, the Saarland became a German region again after having been under French protectorate since the end of World War II. In 1955, a referendum rejected the European status project proposed by France. The inhabitants overwhelmingly chose to join the Federal Republic of Germany. This return, effective January 1, 1957, marked an important step towards Franco-German reconciliation.

The Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) established its capital in Bonn until reunification.
