SICILY - ABAKAINON
(5th century BC)
Abakainon (Abaceno) was in the northern part of Sicily, contiguous to the territory of Messina. The city often opposed the Syracusan hegemony, of Dionysius, Agathocles or Hieron II and allied itself with the Carthaginians. Abakainon fought with Hieron II against the Mamertines in 269 BC..
