Exemplaire sur un flan large, mais légèrement court au droit où la tête d’un cheval est hors champ. Portait magnifique, saisissant de vérité où le vent semble faire flotter la chevelure de la nymphe. A été nettoyé anciennement. Métal légèrement corrodé à 6 heures

Mêmes coins que l’exemplaire de l’American Numismatic Society (ANS. 299) et que celui de la collection Gulbenkian (n° 297). Cet exemplaire dans le style d’Eukleidas ne semble pas signé. Cependant sous la base du cou, on distingue les restes de lettres mais qui ne sont pas lisibles. Sur la joue, on remarque un petit défaut de coin caractéristique.
Same dies as the American Numismatic Society example (ANS. 299) and the one in the Gulbenkian collection (no. 297). This example in the style of Eukleidas does not appear to be signed. However, under the base of the neck, the remains of letters can be seen, but they are not legible. On the cheek, there is a small, characteristic dies defect.

Dionysos the Elder
During the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC), Syracuse had to face on its territory the formidable Athenian expedition led from 415 BC by Alcibiades and Nicias. After the recall of the former, the Athenian fleet was cast in the port of Syracuse and the Athenians were defeated on the Assinarios in 413 BC, Nicias put to death and the survivors of the Athenian army condemned to hard labor in stone quarries (latomies). In 409, the Carthaginians invaded the island again and seized Selinunte and Himera, then Agrigento in 405 BC. Dionysius of Syracuse seized power and drove back the invaders in 397 BC .-C. The reign of Dionysius the Elder lasted another thirty years and it was Timoleon who succeeded him.
