Hilaire de Poitiers, évêque de Poitiers, né vers 315 et mort en 367, est un écrivain latin chrétien. Théologien du IVe siècle, il fut un grand défenseur de l'orthodoxie nicéenne face à l'arianisme et au sabellianisme. Il a été désigné par le titre d’Athanase de l’Occident en raison de son action énergique et pastorale dans la lutte pour l'orthodoxie chrétienne. Il a été élevé au rang de docteur de l'Église par le pape Pie IX en 1851..
Hilary of Poitiers, Bishop of Poitiers, born around 315 and died in 367, was a Latin Christian writer. A 4th-century theologian, he was a great defender of Nicene orthodoxy against Arianism and Sabellianism. He was designated Athanasius of the West because of his energetic and pastoral work in the fight for Christian orthodoxy. He was elevated to the rank of Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius IX in 1851.
