Alexis Carrel (1873-1944) est un chirurgien et biologiste français. Pionnier de la chirurgie vasculaire, il est lauréat du prix Nobel de physiologie ou médecine en 1912. Il s’est fait mondialement connaître par la publication de L'Homme, cet inconnu en 1935. Il plaida pour l'eugénisme et pour une politique nataliste.
Comme l’indique la mention inscrite sur le rebord au revers, il s’agit d’un Exemplaire d’Editeur (EE) pour le club Français de la médaille, sur 100 exemplaires frappés.
Alexis Carrel (1873-1944) was a French surgeon and biologist. A pioneer of vascular surgery, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1912. He became internationally known for the publication of L'Homme, cet inconnu in 1935. He advocated for eugenics and a pro-natalist policy.
