Exemplaire bien frappé et centré. Très belle patine marron foncé, lisse et brillante. Légère faiblesse de frappe périphérique au revers, sur la légende

Аверс: описание: Tête à droite, les cheveux divisés en grosses boucles stylisées, tirées en arrière et le nez pointu, un fleuron sortant de la bouche ; un gros grènetis, surtout visible devant le visage.

Реверс: Описание: Oiseau à gauche ; derrière, un pentagramme, un Y et deux annelets centrés ; sous la queue de l'oiseau, une croisette aux extrémités bouletées ; un globule sous le bec de l'oiseau et un annelet pointé devant.

La variété b de la classe XI a la caractéristique d'avoir une légende tronquée YIII au revers. Cet exemplaire a la particularité d'avoir une sorte de fleuron, proche de la légende CA (?) présente devant la bouche sur les exemplaires de la classe IX. En revanche, le revers a la particularité inédite d'avoir un annelet centré devant le bec. Il s'agit donc d'un hybride inédit des variantes des classes IX et XI.

SENONES (Area of Sens)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Sénons, whose name means the sages or the elders, controlled a vast territory which extended between the south of Champagne and the north of Burgundy. Their main oppidum was Agedincum (Sens) which still retains the name of the ancient civitas today. They had several other oppida like Auxerre, Tonnerre or Avallon. Divona seems to have been the principal sanctuary of the Senones. Caesar had wintered six of his legions in 53 BC at Agedincum. Labienus, Caesar's lieutenant and legate, came to settle in the region of Sens between Gergovie and Alesia in order to control the roads and protect Caesar's armies from an attack from the Belgians or the Germans. Caesar (BG. II, 2; V, 54, 56; VI, 2, 3, 44; VII, 4, 10, 11, 34, 56-59, 62, 75). Ptolemy (G. II, 8, 9).
