Drachme sur un flan large, avec un droit complet de très bon style, avec un revers un peu décentré. Belle patine grise, de collection ancienne, sur un métal de qualité

Ces exemplaires de bon style sont souvent fourrés ; ce n’est pas le cas sur cet exemplaire.
Le droit présente une trace de frappe incuse devant le visage ; soit la monnaie a été surfrappée sur un incus, soit le coin a été choqué et présente ce motif en relief (?).
These good-style examples are often filled; this is not the case on this example. The obverse shows a trace of incus striking in front of the face; either the coin was overstruck on an incus, or the die was shocked and shows this motif in relief (?)

GALLIA - SOUTH-WESTERN GAUL - TOLOSATES (Area of Vieille-Toulouse)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Tolosates, component of the Volques Tectosages, occupied the region of Tolosa (Old Toulouse). They would have been submitted after 105 BC by Quintus Servilius Cæpio. This episode would be at the origin of the myth of the gold of Toulouse "aurum Tolosanum". Tolosa, their capital was included in the province of Narbonnaise, bordering independent Gaul before the Gallic war. During the Gallic Wars, the Tolosates seem to have remained faithful to the Roman alliance. Sources: Caesar (BG. I, 10; III, 20; VII, 7); Strabo (G. IV, 14).
